THE ruling Zanu-PF party has postponed its provincial elections in the seven remaining provinces to a date to be advised to pave way for a Politburo meeting on Saturday. The revolutionary party has conducted elections in Midlands, Manicaland and Mashonaland Central with some party cadres complaining that the polls had been marred by a number of irregularities.
The party’s National Chairman, Cde Simon Khaya Moyo, announced the postponement of the elections in a statement yesterday.
“The ad-hoc committee to superintend the remaining seven provincial elections met team leaders and their respective teams including the chairpersons of the said provinces today, 18 November 2013, at the party headquarters in Harare,” said Cde Khaya Moyo.
Besides updating the teams on the preparation for the said elections, Cde Khaya Moyo said he informed the gathering that there would be a Politburo meeting on Saturday at the party headquarters in Harare.
“This has necessitated the postponement of the provincial elections in the remaining seven provinces to a later date,” he said.
Cde Khaya Moyo added: “Once the exact date has been announced, the elections will be held in one day from 7am to 7pm. All teams must continue with the necessary preparations including certification of registers and candidates.”
The National Chairman warned party members to desist from discussing party issues in the media.
“In the meantime the ad-hoc committee appeals to all leaders to refrain from conducting party affairs through the media.
“The revolutionary party has a clear constitution and explicit structures to be respected in its daily operations. The party’s motto is equally clear, “unity, peace and development.”
The ad-hoc committee is made up of Politburo and Central Committee members mandated to supervise the elections. In Harare the team will be led by Cde Sikhanyiso Ndlovu while Cde Obert Mpofu will lead the team supervising Mashonaland East.
In Mashonaland West Cde Dzikamai Mavhaire will lead the teams while in Masvingo the teams will be led by Cde Nicholas Goche.

In Bulawayo, the team will be led by Cde Ignatius Chombo. The national command centre will be manned by Cde Khaya Moyo, Secretary for Administration, Cde Didymus Mutasa, National Political Commissar Cde Webster Shamu, and Secretary for Women’s Affairs, Cde Oppah Muchinguri and Cde Absolom Sikhosana, the Secretary for Youth Affairs.
In Bulawayo, incumbent chairman Professor Callistus Ndlovu will contest against his deputy Cde Killian Sibanda and Cde Douglas Ndlovu.
There was concern in the city after the provincial executive sought to have Prof Ndlovu retain the post without an election.
Cde Andrew Langa is seeking to retain his post in Matabeleland South and will battle it out with Cdes Phumuza Ndlovu and Lloyd Siyoka.
In Matabeleland North incumbent chairman Cde Richard Moyo is being challenged by his deputy Cde Reeds Dube.
