THE ruling party, Zanu- PF has refurbished Zindele Primary School in Gwanda District in Matabeleland South, which was in a poor state and also bought furniture.
The school, which is in a resettlement area, is housed in a make- shift structure pending the construction of classrooms at a designated place.

Parents turned farm infrastructure into a learning facility to accommodate their children who had to walk more than 15 kilometres to the nearest school.
The make shift structure was now in a dilapidated state making it difficult for learners to conduct their lessons. During the rainy season, learners got soaked due to leaking roofs. Some of the learners would learn while sitting on the floor because of a shortage of furniture while the classrooms had also become a haven for rodents.
In line with President Mnangagwa’s development agenda of leaving no-one and no place behind, the Zanu- PF party local leadership has pooled resources together and refurbished the makeshift structure, much to the delight of the community.
Ms Lindiwe Sibanda said morale was low for learners.
“The structures which the children were using had become an eyesore. As parents we were concerned and it was very sad to note that our children were no longer keen on attending lessons because of the learning environment,” she said.
Ms Sibanda said her children always complained that their classrooms had rats and bats.
“They were also complaining that they did not have furniture and roofs were leaking,” she said.
Ms Sibanda commended the ruling party for its intervention.
“The school now has decent facilities which has rekindled our children’s interest to attend classes,” she said.
Another parent Mr Busani Nare said the community decided to convert the farm premises into classrooms after realising that their children were walking long distances to school.

Ward 22 councillor Mary Mpofu commended the Zanu- PF party for its intervention.
“We appreciate what has been done by Zanu- PF as they have created a conducive learning environment for our children,” she said.
Zanu-PF Matabeleland South provincial secretary for indigenisation and empowerment, Cde Fisani Moyo, said the refurbishment of the school reaffirms the party’s commitment towards transforming people’s livelihoods.
He said the development is in line with the Second Republic’s inclusive development agenda.
Cde Moyo urged members of the business community to ensure that they develop their communities.

“It was not proper for children to learn under those squalid conditions. Our leader, the First Secretary of the party, President Mnangagwa has always emphasised that ‘ilizwe lakhiwa ngabaninilo’, which means that it is us, the community and the rest of you that can build this country,” he said. @DubeMatutu
