ZANU-PF has dismissed media reports suggesting that it has readmitted three MPs that were suspended following their involvement with Vice President Joice Mujuru who was fired from the party in December 2014.
The Daily News yesterday published a story purporting that Cde Tendayi Makunde MP for Murehwa North, Cde Felix Tapiwa Mhona Chikomba Central and Maramba Pfungwe MP Cde Washington Musvaire had been re-admitted to the party following a brief suspension.
The private paper quoted the Mashonaland East secretary for administration Lawrence Katsiru saying the party pardoned them after realising that allegations levelled against them were not serious.
However, Zanu-PF spokesperson Cde Simon Khaya-Moyo yesterday said although the three appeared before the National Disciplinary Committee they were never suspended.
He said it was wrong for The Daily News to say the trio were admitted when they never left the party.
“The Daily News has a front page story today (yesterday) headlined ‘Zanu-PF re-admits three ‘Mujuru MPs.’ Zanu-PF has no knowledge of such MPs. The three mentioned MPs appeared before the NDC for a hearing and the Politburo approved that they be reprimanded. They were never expelled from the party therefore the question of readmission is nonsensical,” he said.
Cde Khaya-Moyo urged the private press to report objectively.
“I appeal to the independent press once again to avoid reporting falsehoods,” said Cde Khaya-Moyo.
He said there is a lot the government is doing to improve people’s lives that the media can focus on instead of negativity.
“Our people deserve to know more about efforts to improve their quality of life through Zim-Asset. A lot is happening on the ground,” he said.
Cde Khaya-Moyo said the media should focus on progressive issues such as the distribution of relief food to people affected by El Nino.
He said the nation should be united regardless of misinformation being peddled by some journalists.
