Zanu-PF salutes resilient Zimbabweans

ZIMBABWEANS have been saluted for their defiance and resilience in the face of illegal Western sanctions since the turn of the millennium.

Through embracing home-grown solutions and remaining united in support of the revolutionary party, ordinary Zimbabwe’s have demonstrated political maturity and love for their country.

In a speech read on his behalf by Zanu-PF Hwange District Coordinating Committee (DCC) chairperson, Cde Mathew Muleya, the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in Matabeleland North, Cde Richard Moyo, said Zimbabweans have bravely fought sanctions and continue being innovative to survive and develop their country.

He was speaking during the provincial launch of the Citizens Against Economic Sanctions (CAES Zimbabwe) anti-sanctions awareness campaign at Diki Shopping Centre in St Mary’s, Hwange District on Saturday.

“These sanctions have caused untold suffering as the detractors have oriented our people to hate and undermine indigenous Government policies,” said Cde Moyo.

“Our monetary policies have been manipulated, thus, sowing the seed of hate to the local currency, international credit lines were cut off, deliberate shortages of fuel, increased food insecurity and forced closure of industries resulting in loss of opportunities, and crumbling health system.

“Despite the havoc wreaked by these punitive measures, we salute the resilience and determination of our people, who have endured the brunt of these sanctions.

“Today we celebrate the entrepreneurs, farmers, and workers who have found innovative ways to keep our economy moving,” said Cde Moyo.

He said while sanctions have caused untold suffering to the masses, stifling economic growth, Government’s engagement and re-engagement policy had given birth to various economic projects.

“Due to the engagements and re-engaging policy by our visionary President, Dr ED Mnangagwa, our all-weather friends stood with us as more economic investments are slowly moving our country towards attainment of Vision 2030,” said Cde Moyo.

“Here in Matabeleland North Province, there are quite a number of Government and investor projects underway just like the upgrading of Hwange Power station and construction of other power stations.

“Investments in coal and lithium mining, the Lake Gwayi-Shangani, Binga Bulawayo Kraal Irrigation Scheme, Bubi-Lupane Dam Irrigation, Ziminya Dam construction in Nkayi, and the rehabilitation of major roads is set to start soon.”

Through the devolution agenda, Cde Moyo said several developmental and humanitarian projects have been completed while others are on various stages of completion.

Government has also put in place drought mitigation measures to ensure that no one will die of hunger as the country experiences the worst climate change-induced droughts. All these projects are home grown.

Cde Moyo reiterated calls for the unconditional lifting of sanctions arguing that Zimbabwe will continue resisting while calling for full global support of Government programmes.

“To the architects of these sanctions, we say ‘you may have underestimated our resolve, but you will not break our spirit’. We will continue to resist, to innovate, and to overcome.

“May we, therefore, mobilise, organise, and unite ourselves against these sanctions until they are lifted,” he said.

“Let’s march forward together with faith in our cause and confidence in our future. Let us support the Government policies fully. We will triumph over sanctions and build a prosperous, independent Zimbabwe we all want!”

CAES Zimbabwe Matabeleland North provincial chairperson, Cde George Nkomo, said they will continue to mobilise citizens through anti-sanctions awareness campaigns across the borders of our motherland Zimbabwe.

CAES Zimbabwe, led by Cde Zharare Martin, has been launching provincial anti-anti-sanctions awareness campaigns.

The country has suffered under the weight of these oppressive sanctions since the year 2000.

The punitive measures were designed to strangle Zimbabwe’s economy and undermine the country’s sovereignty in protest of the successful Land Reform Programme.

Scores of villagers, traditional leaders, Government officials, CAES Zimbabwe leadership, and senior Zanu-PF members attended the meeting and all called for the full unconditional removal of sanctions.
