ZIMBABWE this year realised numerous successes as a result of ZANU PF’s unity, hard work and commitment to set targets, President Mnangagwa has said.
In his address to the Zanu PF National Consultative Assembly at the ruling party’s headquarters in Harare yesterday, the President, who is also the party’s First Secretary, said his administration’s current pursuit was that of politics for economic development and the attainment of transformative results for an improved quality of life for all Zimbabweans.
“So far, we have successfully completed the implementation of National Development Strategy 1, which scored success milestones in all sectors of the economy,” he said.
“National Development Strategy 2 has been launched and will run for another five-year period. Together with the 2026 National Budget, these policies were informed by our various Congress and Conference resolutions and will guide our journey as we march towards the attainment of Vision 2030.
“We must, therefore, focus on the work and year that lie ahead with great fortitude and determination. From the Provincial level to the wards, we must challenge our people to develop concrete programmes of action for the realisation of Goals and Objectives of NDS-2 and Vision 2030.”
The President said it was encouraging to note that Zimbabweans in all the country’s 10 provinces were now behind his philosophy “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo”.
“Tose, kumatunhu ese tavakuziva kuti Nyika inovakwa, inotongwa, inonamatigwa nevene vayo/ Ilizwe, lakhiwa, libuswe, likhulekelwe ngabanikazi balo,” the President said.
“We thank you as the senior leadership of the Party for the guidance, motivation and wise counsel which you continue to provide to the generality of our membership. This extends not only to Party building, unity and discipline, but on the importance of production and productivity.”
The success, modernisation and industrialisation of Zimbabwe’s economy, including the realisation of Vision 2030, said the President, lay in the full utilisation of the country’s God given land and water resources.
So far, he added, the country’s collective efforts were yielding fruit, with the agriculture sector realising record-breaking harvests in strategic crops such as maize, wheat and tobacco.
“We must carry on being able to feed ourselves, at both household and national levels, as well as providing the necessary raw materials to our growing industrial sector,” he said.
“Kumaruwa kwatiri, ngatikurudzirane kuti tirime tizadze matura edu tive nemaguta, uyezve tishandure hupenyu weruzhinji.”
On its part, the President said the ZANU PF-led Government would continue to facilitate the distribution of agricultural inputs in support of the Pfumvudza/ Intwasa programme.
Investments in dam construction, irrigation development, as well as the establishment of green belts, through the expansion of land under irrigation, among other agriculture initiatives, remained ongoing.
“The party, farmer organisations, Government ministries and departments should strengthen cooperation and work in unity, towards a successful summer cropping season. I reiterate that all inputs must reach our farmers and benefit all our communities,” he said.
“Tanzwa kuti kune vamwe vashandi veAgritex kumatunhu varikunyima vanhu mbeu. Ministry ye Agriculture ngaigadzirise izvozvo. Mbeu yenyika ngaisvike kuruzhinji rweZimbabwe.”
On the economic front, President Mnangagwa said measures implemented by the Government to strengthen discipline in the economy and promote a stable currency were bearing fruit.
“Let us, however, remain vigilant against those who may attempt to undermine our country’s progress, economy and national image,” said the President.
He said Zimbabwe was also strengthening partnerships with other progressive countries to accelerate productivity, as well as grow the economy.
This, he added, was in line with Zimbabwe’s stance as a friend to all and enemy to none.
“It is pleasing that more investors are choosing to invest in our country. However, we will never compromise our sovereignty,” he said.
“Those who choose to work with us must respect that we are an independent people and sovereign country,” he said.
In that stead, President Mnangagwa said Zimbabwe was after win-win partnerships that benefit its people.
“We say No, to ‘rider and horse’ type of investment relations. All investors are called upon to respect our laws, traditions and customs,” said President Mnangagwa.
“Meanwhile, dialogue and mutually beneficial relations between our investors and communities should always be encouraged.
Yesterday’s NCA was held in line with ZANU PF’s Constitution, which requires the National Consultative Assembly to meet at least twice a year.
The President said the NCA was a vital aspect as it presented the ruling party an opportunity to receive critical updates on the implementation of both party and Government policies and programmes, while affording members the chance to make appropriate observations and recommendations on how best the party and nation can continue to move forward.
“I count on you, members of the NCA, as the fountain of wisdom and experience to guide our structures and ensure that the Party continues to achieve transformational results,” said President Mnangagwa..
“The year has seen us realise many successes, as a result of our unity, hard work and commitment to the targets we have set for ourselves.
“We must congratulate our people in all provinces across the various social and economic sectors.”
He then implored NCA members to complement the work being done by party departments and Leagues, as well as apprise communities and party structures on outcomes and resolutions of the 22nd National People’s Conference.
Similarly, President Mnangagwa said the various policies, programmes and projects being implemented by the party and Government should be explained to the general citizenry so that they can see the role they must play to bring about the country’s prosperity.
“Ngatirambei tichipa mazano kuMusangano wedu, tichigara muvanhu, tichigadzirisa matambudziko kumisha, tose navo, tichishanda tose. Tisu vene veNyika,” the President said.
“We must all work to consolidate the popularity, growth and dominance of our colossal mass Party, ZANU PF, by winning the hearts, minds and trust of all Zimbabweans.”
Vice President and ZANU PF Second Secretary Dr Constantino Chiwenga, Secretary General Advocate Jacob Mudenda and National Chairman Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri were among the delegates in attendance.
