Barely two months after the Chiredzi Town Council held its elections for the Town Chairperson, the local authority office bearers recently elected a new chairman and vice-chairman to fill in vacant posts.
The post of chair fell vacant after the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) interim Secretary-General Mr Sengezo Tshabangu recalled Ward 6 and 7 Councillors Musingashari Musingashari and Rogers Chikonye respectively.
Chikonye had won the chairmanship through the casting of lots when they tossed a coin after elections were held to fill the post. During a special full council meeting at the town council chambers, Zanu-PF Councillor for Ward 3, Jameson Charumbira, who won the deputy chairperson’s post in the previous election, was elected chairman uncontested with Zanu-PF Ward 1 Councillor, Liberty Macharaga, taking over the deputy chairman’s post.

In his acceptance speech, Clr Charumbira pledged to continue working for the greater good of the community, through service delivery.
“I pledge to continue working with the community and stakeholders in giving them good service delivery, also making our town a safe place for all,” he said.
Clr Macharaga said that it is time to work for those that entrusted them with the local authority offices.
“Our main duty is to create a safe haven for all in Chiredzi. I pledge to work tirelessly to make sure that development comes first and the residents get better service delivery,” he said. (New Ziana)
