Zanu-PF vows to reclaim Manicaland

The party recently appointed Ambassador John Mvundura and Retired Lieutenant General Mike Nyambuya as Manicaland provincial chairperson and deputy chairperson respectively.

This followed the suspension of Cdes Mike Madiro and Dorothy Mabika on charges of fraud and corruption.
In his first interview following his appointment as vice chairperson, Rtd Lt-Gen Nyambuya said they had already embarked on a restructuring exercise of provincial structures ahead of the polls.

He said the restructuring exercise was designed to ensure a direct link with the grassroots.
“There have been many developments ever since the last election in 2008,” said Rtd Lt-Gen Nyambuya.

“Some of the developments that have taken place right now include the fact that we no longer have the District Co-ordinating Committee.
“That has got a substantial bearing in the span of control which the provincial leadership has.

“That entails us to ensure that we have sufficient mechanism and sufficient means to reach the grassroots level and in that regard we are restructuring the party in the province so that we have a command and control system which is more responsive to the current challenges we are facing.”

Rtd Lt-Gen Nyambuya said the party was seized with encouraging all the party’s members to register as voters.
He said although MDC-T won majority seats in the province in 2008, the party had exhibited high levels of corruption that had turned tables in favour of Zanu-PF.

Rtd Lt Gen Nyambuya said MDC-T leaders in Government were only after enriching themselves at the expense of the people.
“One does not need to go on top of a mountain,” he said.

“People can see for themselves that the people they voted for are concerned with their own individual interests.
“In local councils, people can see that councillors they voted in are obsessed with acquiring stands and material properties for themselves at the expense of the interests of the people who voted them into power.

“The people of Manicaland are thoroughly fed up with the kind of leadership they put into power.
“They are ready and willing to correct the mistake which they made in 2008 both at local government level as well as at national level — that is the House of Assembly and Senate.”
Rtd Lt Gen said Zanu-PF was now a united force in the province.
