A united Zanu-PF is a harbinger of exciting times for the entire nation, a scenario which facilitates the smooth execution of the noble economic blueprint, the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (Zim Asset) whose programmes it has started to implement.
The recent media reports which depicted a divided Zanu-PF failed to isolate the essentials which this article seeks to bring to the fore. For those in the dark, this phenomenon called factionalism is never a new invention only peculiar to the revolutionary party, Zanu-PF. It has been there since time immemorial.
It is only the shallow and excited media outlets who out of their myopic thinking, have clung onto this claimed state of affairs within Zanu-PF as if their lives depend on it. Obviously these merchants and purveyors of doom who always desire for a Zanu-PF moment of collapse are in for a rude shock.
Zanu-PF is a tried and tested party with the requisite experience to tackle and remedy any anomalies which will arm the party of liberation with sufficient ammunition to confront its political opponents with renewed vigour. The revolutionary party has a character of steel which can only be discerned especially when its adversaries contemplate its downfall.
Like any living creature, Zanu-PF renews its spirit regularly by subjecting itself to its internal processes which involves leadership affirmation as was done during the Women’s League Congress and the Youth League Congress.
Naturally as a democratic institution, the revolutionary party has adhered to the letter and spirit of its constitution since its formation in 1963. Talk of adhering to the principles of the notion of democracy, Zanu-PF has stayed honest to such virtues.
In one of my conversations with a cadre who is still youthful and intends to compete for office in the revolutionary party, Zanu-PF, the lively and indeed knowledgeable cadre who hails from Mutasa district of Manicaland intimated that the process which is going on within the party will ultimately result in solidifying of this institution called Zanu-PF. It would be a complete misnomer to have all cadres within the party think in the same way and echo same viewpoints on matters concerning the revolution.
Equally, it will be astounding to have the same cadres wanting same characters to occupy the top echelons of power till the next congress, so naturally their voting patterns in the forthcoming congress scheduled for December will reflect this diversity. Though choices of cadres differ, what remains the same and of paramount importance is their allegiance to the values and ethos of the revolution.
Zanu-PF comes first and is much more important than the wishes and whims of individual cadres.
This rigorous process of ushering new leadership in the next congress will indeed separate the real men from the little boys. It is a contest and only those who the people want shall get the leadership post.
There is always a next time and those who are patient are virtuous.
It is only democratic principles and values which the party has adhered to since its formation which would have won.
Certainly the team which President Mugabe will lead after the Congress will have been endorsed by the people given that the participating delegates derive their mandate from the populace.
Zanu-PF is a people’s party whose roots are in the people. It is the people that emerged victorious when the party, Zanu-PF, humiliated the former colonisers’ lackeys in the form of the various Movements for Democratic Changes (MDCs) in the July 31 2013 elections.
With the 2018 elections coming, the momentum which the Zanu-PF government has gained in the implementation of Zim Asset programmes will only lead to the consolidation of the ruling party’s grip on power. Those who understand how Zanu-PF responds to any setback will predict that the party has a rich history of emerging formidable after challenges.
Zanu-PF’s ability to reincarnate is what has confounded its friends and foes alike. That feature has made it to be the envy of contemporary political parties in the progressive world.
A glimpse into the ongoing endorsement of the First Lady, Amai Grace Mugabe, by the Women’s League, the Youth League and the Chiefs and their spouses is refreshing.
The iconic character of the First Lady will bring a wealth of experience to the vibrant Women’s League.
Her business acumen and philanthropic nature are attributes which will add value to the party.
If such a huge personality is being given the chance to lead the party, surely Zanu-PF is headed for better times as it will continue to pummel its political adversaries into eternal submission.
The lucrative business deals which President Mugabe sealed during his recent state visit to China will usher employment opportunities for the populace, an element which will endear them to the revolutionary party.
Zanu-PF understands the past; it is a critical component of Zimbabwe’s rich liberation history, which positions it as the only party of today for Zimbabweans and indeed the party for posterity.
Zanu-PF will emerge strong after the Congress and certainly the 2018 harmonised elections are a mere formality which the party will win resoundingly.
A luta continua!
