The Zanu PF Women’s League poultry project continues to empower women across Matabeleland South, with Bulilima District becoming the latest beneficiary of the life-changing initiative.
Launched last year, the programme has already seen 3 000 chicks distributed across the province’s seven districts—Gwanda, Bulilima, Mangwe, Matobo, Insiza, Beitbridge, and Umzingwane.

In a further boost this May, the province received a solar-powered incubator with a capacity of 3 600 eggs. Located in Gwanda, the incubator is serving as a central hub for poultry production, aimed at enhancing women’s participation in economic development and food security.
On Saturday, day-old chicks were handed over to several wards in Bulilima District at a ceremony held at the Bulilima District Business Unit in Mlomwe. The wards included Ntunungwe, Natani, Tjankwa, and Gwambe.
The event was organised by Bulilima Constituency Proportional Representative Dr Evelyn Ndlovu, who also serves as Zanu PF Women’s League National Secretary for Local Government and Housing Amenities.

Dr Ndlovu said the poultry project, made possible by President Mnangagwa through the efforts of Zanu PF National Secretary for Women’s Affairs Cde Mabel Chinomona, is transforming livelihoods in the district.
“The incubator and poultry project made possible by President Mnangagwa through Zanu PF National Secretary of Women’s League Cde Chinomona is a life-changing development in Bulilima District.
“So far we have started the distribution of the day-old chicks per ward. After all wards are covered, we will cascade the project to village level, ensuring that no one and no place is left behind in this poultry initiative,” she said.
Also present at the event were Zanu PF politburo member Senator Richard Ndlovu, Bulilima Constituency legislator and ICT Deputy Minister Dingumuzi Phuti, former Bulilima East MP Cde Mathias Siqhoza, Zanu PF Central Committee member Cde Mkhuleko Nleya, and Zanu PF Matabeleland South Provincial Women’s League members including Cde Maglin Moyo, Cde O Nsokosi and Cde Petronella Masendu.
Other attendees included Zanu PF DCC representatives, Bulilima District Development Coordinator Mr Onesimo Zogara, Headman Sikhathini, local traditional leaders, Bulilima RDC members, hundreds of Zanu PF supporters and invited guests.
