Zanu-PF youth leader left for dead

The two were attacked on their way from a Zanu-PF meeting that was held at Stodart Hall in Mbare on March 10. Cde Madzivanzira told The Herald on Thursday that the MDC-T supporters accused them of burning a house belonging to an MDC-T aspiring councillor identified as Mr Moyo in 2008.

After the attack, Cde Madzivanzira was assisted by Zanu-PF chairman for Harare province Cde Amos Midzi and he was admitted for nine days at the Harare Central Hospital. He said his ribs were broken during the attack and seven of his teeth were left shaking and some have to be pulled out. Cde Madzivanzira said the MDC-T supporters assaulted him using iron bars.

“I was attacked by Mr Moyo and his two sons Wisdom and Theophelous on my way from Mbare where we were attending a Zanu-PF meeting,” he said.

“We met them at the gate here and they promised to come back and deal with me and my brother. They alleged that we burnt their house in 2008. He (Mr Moyo) and his sons came in the evening and started to beat us with iron bars. My teeth were left shaking and the doctor advised me that seven of them should be removed.”

Cde Madzivanzira said Mr Moyo returned around 9:30pm with a kombi that was loaded with 14 other people and assaulted them again. He said his house was also destroyed during the melee before the group disappeared. Theophelous has since appeared in court on allegations of political violence for allegedly teaming up with his brothers and assaulting the two Zanu-PF supporters.

According to the indictment, Theophelous (29) and his two brothers Wisdom and Chiratidzo, who were still at large, accused the Madzivanzira brothers of having been involved in the burning down of their house during the 2008 Presidential run-off.

Moyo appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Don Ndirowei on Thursday last week and was granted US$100 bail. He was remanded to April 19 for trial. The State had opposed bail arguing that Moyo committed a very serious offence.
