ZANU-PF Youths in Mbare 3 District, Samora Machel Branch have engaged in a clean-up campaign that cleared tonnes of garbage and unblocked drainage systems, in an effort to improve hygiene and the residents’ living conditions.

The campaign, which was rolled out under the leadership of Harare Province Youth League member Cde Oliver Vellem, was held in support of the President’s initiative for clean environments and demonstrated the power of youth in addressing urban challenges.

In an interview with Zimpapers, Cde Vellem emphasised that the clean-up was more than a one-day event.

He said it reflected ZANU PF’s total commitment to service delivery and environmental sustainability.

“This initiative is a clear demonstration of the party’s commitment to community development and environmental sustainability,” he said.

“We are proud to be part of a community that is willing to take action to address the challenges we face.”

Cde Vellem urged residents to take ownership of their surroundings, saying that the Government alone cannot solve every challenge.

“We must take responsibility for our own communities and work together to make a difference,” said Cde Vellem.

Beyond removing waste, the youths educated residents on sustainable practices, showing how mobilisation can complement national policy.

In this regard, Cde Vellem said the initiatives will extend to markets, schools, and hospitals, while also launching awareness programmes on sanitation and hygiene.

“We are committed to taking these impactful initiatives to the next level. We will be expanding our clean-up campaigns and introducing awareness programmes on environmental conservation,” he said.

The initiative also seeks to curb idleness linked to drug abuse and anti-social behaviour by engaging youths in constructive community projects.

“Do not be ashamed, we are encouraging youths to take part in community development initiatives,” said Cde Vellem.

Cde Vallem added that they were embarking on various development projects to empower the youths.

“We are introducing piggery and aqua farming projects along the Mukuvisi Corridor. These initiatives will promote sustainable livelihoods and provide decent housing for our people,” he said.
