A 23-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo man is counting the cost of easy money after he was slapped with 36 months behind bars for stealing broadcasting equipment worth over US$5 000 from a Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation vehicle.

Elton Dalubuhle Ndlovu of Iminyela was convicted by the Tredgold Magistrates Court for theft from a motor vehicle after he helped himself to ZBC gear during the night at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair grounds.

The court heard that on 28 December 2025, between 1am and 7.30am, Ndlovu unlawfully gained access to an unlocked ZBC Outside Broadcast van parked at the ZITF grounds.

He stole a black satchel packed with high-value broadcasting and electronic equipment.
The stolen items included an Apple MacBook laptop, an HP Core i7 laptop, a Barix and audio box, power cables, laptop chargers, a Wi-Fi router, a microphone connector, headphones and ethernet cables.

The total value of the loot was pegged at US$5 138.
However, Ndlovu’s freedom was short-lived.

He was arrested while attempting to sell some of the stolen property, leading to the recovery of all the items.
The magistrate sentenced him to 36 months imprisonment, with 18 months suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

This leaves Ndlovu to serve an effective 18 months in jail.

In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to secure their property at all times.
