THE Zimbabwe Building Contractors Association (ZBCA) is holding the Women in Construction conference and awards in Harare today, aimed at celebrating the remarkable achievements and contributions of women in construction as well as recognising the vital role they play in building our nation’s infrastructure and economy.

It is running under the theme: “Embrace Change, Cultivate Growth, and Transform.”

ZBCA is a non-profit national organisation formed in 1985 with the mandate to represent emergent building contractors in the building and civil engineering categories.

The conference is being attended by Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Minister, Monica Mutsvangwa, ZBCA chief executive officer, Mrs Joyline Zindaga, ZBCA women’s desk chairperson Miss Portia Mariga and women from various organisations.

In her address to the conference, Mrs Zindaga said the conference and awards are aimed at celebrating, elevating, and uniting the women who are breaking ground and building a legacy in Zimbabwe’s construction sector.

“Today, we come together not just to reflect, but to recognise and uplift. We are here to celebrate the strength, resilience and brilliance of women who are reshaping the construction industry, brick by brick, plan by plan and project by project,” she said.

“Over the next few hours, we will explore topics that matter most to women in our industry, from leadership and innovation to business etiquette and community building.

“We will share experiences, insights and best practices that will help us grow, both personally and professionally. As we embark on this journey together, I encourage you to be bold, to take risks, and to support one another.

“Let’s celebrate our achievements and learn from our challenges. The theme for this year’s conference Embrace Change, Cultivate Growth, and Transform resonates deeply with the journey many of us have walked. To embrace change is to challenge old narratives. For generations, construction was seen as a man’s world but that world is evolving.”
