adminset to battle it out in the inter-franchise age-group tournament at four different venues across the country starting on Monday.
The tournament, which has attracted teams from across the nation, is expected to run for four days in a 50-over format.
The Under-18 boys will converge at Watershed in Marondera while the Under-16s will be heading to Bulawayo for their competitions to be hosted at Queens Sports Club.
The Under-14s will be playing at Prince Edward School in Harare while the Under-13 will be at Kyle College in Masvingo. ZC Development manager Nick Singo revealed that all the teams were ready for the tournament after intensifying their preparations.
“All the teams have agreed that they will take part and have trained intensively for the tournament,” said Singo.
“We are expecting high standards of cricket since various courses have been running all over the country to improve the levels of coaching.”
Singo added that the inter-franchise tournament, which has been held for the past few years, was important as it gives an opportunity to select the best players for international matches.
“Inter-franchise tournaments are important because that is where we select national age group teams.
“After this tournament we are going to select 12 players from the Under-13 and 14s who will tour South Africa in June and also the Under-16 and 18s who will represent Zimbabwe in July.
“Not only will the players be selected for the national team to tour South Africa but they will also get a chance of being exposed to very competitive cricket,” said Singo.
