ZC, Queens Sports Club bury hatchet

Brandon Moyo, Sports Reporter

AFTER a week of speculation regarding the saga between Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC), veteran administrator Nicholas “Nick” Singo and Queens Sports Club over the use of the stadia, the parties have found common ground.

The parties met yesterday at the ground to discuss what the future holds and decided to bury the hatchet and move forward with their working relationship.

ZC, Singo and the Queens Sports Club board decided to let bygones be bygones and continue with their strong working relationship amid concerns over what would happen as the matter reached the courts.

Queens Sports Club had taken ZC (first respondent), Singo, who is the general manager of both the Bulawayo Metropolitan Cricket Association (BMCA) and Tuskers (second respondent) and the City of Bulawayo to court seeking an interdict where they argued that the first respondent and second respondent’s move of the hosting of musical shows violated the sub-letting agreement.

Speaking to this publication after the meeting, Singo said the only problem that was there was miscommunication between the involved parties.

“We are burying the hatchet, whatever happened has happened but we are now moving forward. The only problem was lack of communication, there was a communication breakdown and after this meeting, there will be more communication,” said Singo.

Queens Sports Club president, Ntuthuko Gabela agreed with what Singo said, adding that it was unfortunate that their disagreement reached the stage where it was but all is in the past now and they are looking forward to continuing with their great working relationship.

“I concur with what Mr Singo has said, it was just miscommunication and the issue has been resolved. We are one team and we are now moving forward together as one. Everything has been sorted out and we are good together as a team and are moving forward,” said Gabela.

The controversy was sparked by the hosting of shows and other entertainment events at the city’s premier cricket ground, in which the owners alleged that ZC was violating the sub-letting agreement by hosting non-cricket events.

As the matter was before the courts, Gabela, however, said all the controversy was addressed and resolved and the parties were moving forward.

Gabela added that it was unfortunate that the issue had spilled into the public space.

Also in attendance was ZC managing director Givemore Makoni. — @brandon_malvin
