announcement will only be made next month.
In recent weeks they has been a flurry of reports surrounding the captaincy after Elton Chigumbura initially indicated that he was stepping down from his post.
Chigumbura appears to have had a change of heart but yesterday there were further reports that he will only be kept as captain of the Twenty20 with another skipper named for the ODI and Test sides.
NewZimbabwe.com reported that Chigumbura is set to stay on as Twenty20 captain but will lose charge of the Test and 50 overs teams.
The website claimed Chigumbura became the first casualty of Zimbabwe’s poor showing at February’s ICC World Cup in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka after throwing in the towel as overall captain last week.
Quoting sources, NewZimbabwe.com said Chigumbura has been given a reprieve by Zimbabwe Cricket authorities to remain as Twenty20 team skipper.
But authoritative ZC sources told The Herald last night that all that has been written about the national team captaincy has been mere speculation.
“A decision will only be made and announced next month,” said the ZC official.
