THE Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC), in partnership with the Government, today launched the Accelerated Ecumenical Interventions for the Reduction of Risky Flight Programme, which seeks to address illegal migration among young people.
The programme is an initiative by the ZCC that aims to address the root causes of risky migration among adolescents and young people in border areas.
It is targeted at five districts, namely Chipinge, Chimanimani, Mwenezi, Gwanda, and Bulilima. The launch, which was held in Gwanda, was attended by officials from the ZCC, government departments, civic society organisations, and church representatives.
The key interventions of the programme include social support and protection, information and awareness, and economic empowerment. The initiative acknowledges that migration itself is not inherently problematic but becomes a concern due to the potential risks for migrants and those left behind.
The project seeks to mitigate and address these challenges by enhancing access to essential services, providing relevant information, and fostering economic empowerment.
