ZDF hands over 2 school blocks in Kwekwe

Zimbabwe Defence Forces are committed in serving the communities they live in so as to maintain a mutual relationship with their publics.

“It is important for you to take advantage of the abundant technical skills available within the defence forces.
“As minister of defence, you are assured of my support in your future endeavours to improve the delivery of education in the community.

“Now that classrooms are there, efforts must be directed towards the sourcing of computers, equipment to support instruction and learning in food and nutrition, metalwork and other science subjects,” he said.

He said the construction of the two classroom blocks is the first phase of a three-phase programme which would see Mbizo High School getting more classes constructed by the army. The army also maintained the sewer reticulation system and the electrical system.

Mbizo High School headmaster Mr Jim Mpalale thanked the army for constructing the classroom blocks and said the school was now able to accommodate the more than 1500 pupils that it presently enrols.

“Minister Mnangagwa, you officially opened this school in 1986 and today we are happy to see you here again while expanding our territory. We enrol more than 1500 pupils with all academic capabilities. We are different from other schools that stipulate the points of entry, here we accept everyone,” he said.

He said the school had several students who won scholarships to study abroad after exhibiting exceptional talent in various sporting disciplines like chess, hockey and cricket.
The handover ceremony was attended by several dignitaries who included Midlands Governor Cde Jason Machaya, chiefs and service chiefs.
