ZEC applauds high turnout

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has applauded the turnout during the voter’s roll inspection exercise in Masvingo which ended on Tuesday.

Provincial statistics for Masvingo indicate that 181 579 turned up for inspection, 106 226 were female.

In an interview with The Herald, ZEC Masvingo provincial elections officer Mr Zex Pudurai said they were happy with the numbers.

“We are happy with the turnout of the voters as 181 579 voters turned up for physical voter’s roll inspection, which was running between May 19 and 29,” he said.

“We had a chain of verification methods, which are the physical inspection, bulk message for those who provided correct and functional mobile numbers and the toll number *265#.”

Mr Pudurai said those who turned up for physical inspection constituted more than 30 percent of the registered voters and nationwide they were above 80 percent.

“Those who turned up for physical inspection constitutes 30 percent of the registered voters here and nationwide they are above 80 percent, which is quite a good number,” said Mr Pudurai.

Masvingo province has 591 382 registered voters.
