THE Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) is today commissioning its Matobo District office in a development expected to improve service delivery by the electoral management body.

The office is located in Kezi, Matabeleland South Province. Construction of the facility began in February this year and was completed in April.

The Minister of State for Matabeleland South Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Albert Nguluvhe, represented by Director of Infrastructure Development Mr Daniel Njowa, will officiate at the commissioning ceremony.

ZEC is an independent Chapter 12 institution established in terms of Section 238 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe and is responsible for the management and administration of the country’s electoral processes.

The commission was initially established through an Act of Parliament in 2004, drawing from the experience of its predecessor, the Electoral Supervisory Commission, as well as regional electoral principles promoted by the Southern African Development Community.
