ZEC invite applications

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has invited applications for accreditation from prospective election observers for the Harare Municipality ward 12 and Karoi Town Council ward 10 and Zaka Rural District Council ward 32 by-elections scheduled for January 25.The seats became vaccant after the three councillors died last year.

ZEC is inviting both local and foreign observers and the prospective observers submit their application forms before the end of business on January 21.

In a statement today, ZEC chief elections officer Mr Lovemore Sekeramayi said local observers and the media should direct their applications through the provincial elections office of the province in, which the observers and media would want to cover.

He said foreign observers should direct their applications to the chief elections officer at the ZEC headquarters in Harare.

Mr Sekeramayi said the electoral body was charging US$10 for local observers, US$20 for regional observers, US$50 for observers from foreign embassies in the country and US$100 for observers from any other country outside Africa.

Zimbabwe media practitioners accredited with the Zimbabwe Media Commission and working in the country for foreign media houses will pay US$50 to be accredited while journalists working for the local media will pay US$10.

He said all applications must list the names and identity particulars of all individuals seeking accreditation and acquaint themselves with the provisions of accreditation of observers’ regulations of 2013.
