THE Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has rolled out a countrywide election awareness programme.
ZEC was on Tuesday at Nhedziwa Growth Point in Chimanimani where it held an over-subscribed roadshow on voter education.
Speaking on the sidelines, the independent commission’s representative Mr Tafadzwa Nyabinde said all the country’s 10 provinces would be covered before election day.
“We are moving around the country educating people on the voting process, encouraging people to go out in their numbers and exercise their Constitutional right,” he said.
In Manicaland, said Mr Nyabinde, they will visit Sakubva Musika bus terminus and Watsomba Business Centre in Mutasa.
He said the aim of the programme was to reach out to as many people as possible before July 30.
“Our goal is to educate people on what is expected during voting for example the importance of carrying their national identity cards or valid passports.
“We will be telling them the dos and don’ts of what is expected of them during the voting process. For example they are not allowed to take selfies when voting as well as donning party regalia near the polling centres.
“We know that there are people who will get excited and want to show the world that they have voted, so we will be encouraging them to desist from such conduct,” he said.
ZEC officials told those who lost their BVR receipts that they still have a chance to vote since their names would be on the voters roll.
They told members of the public that elderly people and the physically challenged would be given first preference.
