ZIMBABWE Electoral Commission (ZEC) chairperson, Justice Priscilla Chigumba, has reinforced the organisation’s dedication to promoting gender equality and removing barriers that impact individuals with disabilities in the electoral process.
This commitment was made at the launch of the ZEC Strategic Plan for 2025-2029 and the Gender and Disability Inclusion Plan in Harare.
The event saw participation from officials across various Government departments, the United Nations and political parties.
Justice Chigumba emphasised that the strategic plan was developed with consideration of the anticipated voter population in 2028.
She said the gender policy aims to tackle existing imbalances and create equal opportunities for both women and men in electoral participation.
Additionally, the disability policies are designed to eliminate challenges preventing individuals with disabilities from fully engaging in electoral processes.
Justice Chigumba also mentioned that, while the Client Charter has already been launched, ZEC will take further steps to raise awareness of the charter.
