RESIDENTS of Zengeza 3 Extension in Chitungwiza are living in fear of a cholera outbreak due to continued exposure to raw sewage for months.
Despite several attempts to engage with the Chitungwiza Town Council, the Council has failed to attend to the issue of burst sewer pipes.
In an interview with H-Metro, Patrick Mubwandarikwa, said they have tried to engage the Council but it has not attended to the issue of burst pipes resulting in sewage flowing on the streets since last year.
The residents their children’s health could be compromised as the kids play outside, risking contamination of cholera or other diarrhoeal-related diseases. “The raw sewage has been flowing on the streets since last year.
“Many residents have tried calling the Council, but they never attended to the matter.
“We fear our children will contract cholera as they play on the streets and are not aware of the dangers they face.
“We want the municipality to come and address this issue before it affects many lives in the area.”
An elderly resident, Sekai Murape, said the stench of sewage was worsening her asthma condition, as she often has breathing difficulties.
“The stench has worsened my asthma condition.
“Council must do something as this issue is now burdening me a lot.”
Not comment could be obtained from the Council.
