Zesa has appointed Albert Joel Nduna, the board’s vice chairman, as the interim board chairman following the passing of executive chairman Dr Sydney Gata.
The position of executive chairman has been eliminated.
Cletus Nyachowe, a seasoned engineer, is now serving as the acting chief executive officer, effective July 17.
Nyachowe holds a Bachelor of Science in Electronic and Electrical Engineering (1985-1988) and an MBA (1999-2001), both from the University of Zimbabwe.
He previously led Powertel, a subsidiary of Zesa.
In a message to staff, Zesa’s executive director for human capital, Fortune Sambo, highlighted the extensive corporate and sectoral expertise that Nduna and Nyachowe bring to their new roles.
“Their leadership will be crucial as we work towards the Government’s goals of achieving total electrification and universal access to power and data by 2030,” said Sambo.

We hope the new ZESA management brings a consistent supply of electricity to the country. We are still suffering from the legacy of Sydney Gata’s incompetence. The man was both a player and referee in ZESA management by virtue of being both ZESA CEO and Executive Chairman. He was practically supervising himself. The country suffered immensely under Gata’s stewardship at ZESA. We hope the new team doesn’t perpetuate his legacy.
