BLACKOUTS are backing off! Zimbabweans can finally plug in with confidence after the Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) juiced the national grid with a sizzling 1 619 megawatts on Friday, a major leap from Thursday’s 1 366MW.
The Hwange Power Station led the power charge, cranking up production to a blazing 1 176MW, up from 923MW. It is proof that those behind-the-scenes fixes are finally sparking results. This comes after a near-disastrous boiler failure linked to acidic water earlier this month. But ZPC engineers rolled up their sleeves, and now the lights are back on!
Kariba South Hydropower Station stayed steady with 400MW output, while Independent Power Producers (IPPs) tossed in a consistent 43MW, showing that power diversity is no longer just a buzzword.
This electrifying recovery is already being felt across homes and factories, where flickering bulbs and frozen productivity had become the norm. Now, it’s switch on and hustle!
Energy Minister July Moyo lit up the conversation at Hwange by backing clean coal tech, saying the country must use its coal “to develop our people”, not toss it out under climate pressure.
“We’re not banning coal, we’re cleaning it,” said Moyo. “Zimbabwe’s future is in using what we have smarter, cleaner, and better.”
With more generation units set to bounce back soon and fresh investment flowing in, Zimbabwe’s power game is finally turning up the voltage.
Is this the end of dark dinners and candlelit homework? Time and megawatts will tell!
