THE Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) has moved to avert a potential safety hazard at Babambeni Primary School in Pumula North, Bulawayo, after Zimpapers highlighted a dangerously leaning electricity pole.

The pole, which carries live electricity cables, has since been straightened and is now upright following the deployment of ZETDC staff to the school.
The intervention follows the publication on Sunday of visuals showing the pole leaning precariously towards the school’s perimeter wall, raising concerns about the safety of learners and the surrounding community.

The pole had reportedly been in that position for months, with fears that it could collapse, particularly during strong winds.
