Zora star Leonard Zhakata was forced to cancel his show at Club Penyai in Glen View over the weekend after some of his band members failed to turn up. Zhakata said, “I don’t have have anything to say concerning that issue.”
Some irate fans shouted obscenities at the musician before they got refunds from Saul Mubvumbi, the band manager.
Mubvumbi too refused to comment, referring all questions to Zhakata.
“Talk to Leonard but you can only get in touch with him on Whatsap not calls,” he said.
Enerst Manyika who is the owner of the venue and a show promoter, confirmed the debacle, but said the show was called off because of low fan turnout.
“Less than 20 people attended the show so I think he was not happy with that,” said Manyika. “I had met all the costs including the full colour posters and I had paid for the police but I was surprised to be told that their bass guitarist was not there.”
Zhakata recently announced he was quitting secular music for gospel, prompting some of his key band members to leave the group.
His latest album “Zvangu Zvaita” is doing well on the charts with the gospel track “Dhonza Makomborero” making waves.
