THE Zimbabwe Handball Federation are happy with the progress they have made in mending relations with the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee.
The local handball association has been missing out on several developmental packages and benefits from the country’s Olympic sports governing body because they were reported to have been de-listed following their failure to comply with the requirements and expectations of ZOC.
As a result of this fall-out, the sport has faced several challenges to compete in regional and international events.
But ZHF secretary-general Alphios Magiya said yesterday they had taken strides to resolve their differences with the ZOC for the development and growth of the sport.
“We are looking forward to resuming mutual relationships with ZOC, they highlighted the need for us to have a constitution which was approved by the Sports Commission and we have since done that.
“Our way forward now probably will be to engage ZOC so that they can inform us on how we can carry on as we are also keen to work with them.
“We acknowledge the pivotal role ZOC plays in sporting activities although we believe it should be a mutually-beneficial engagement.
“At times as team sports we get very little support from ZOC as most emphasis is put on personal elite performance-sporting activities.
“All the same we recognise the importance they serve in facilitating Olympic activities and as a result we will keep building the bridges to be in good standing with them again,” Magiya said.
ZHF president Amon Madzvamuse, however, said there were no outstanding issues with ZOC and they had a healthy relationship.
“It’s not true or fair rather to say the handball federation was de-listed. To the best of my knowledge we are in good books with ZOC.”
