NOMINATIONS for Area Zones opened on Wednesday with the Zifa chief executive officer Jonathan Mashingaidze saying elections will be held on 21 December.
Area Zone elections mark the beginning of the road to the 2014 national elections.
“Nominations opened today and those that are seeking positions for Area Zones can go to the provincial offices to get the forms.

“The elections are set for next month before Christmas and after this, we are going to have the provincial, then regional, Premiership and Zifa national elections,” said Mashingaidze.

Those elected from the Area Zone will be allowed to cast their votes in the provincial elections and only four from the four regional zones will vote at the national elections.

Throughout the country, administrators have already started campaigning for positions. It is the provincial, regional, women’s soccer, Premiership and the national elections that have generated lots of  interests.

The Zifa president Cuthbert Dube is seeking a second term in office next year and so is the head of the Premiership Twine Phiri.
