Dube made the remarks when he addressed the media at the end of an all-stakeholders indaba at Pandhari Lodge yesterday.
“One of the most important things that is standing in the way of sponsorship for Zifa is Asiagate”
Dube pointed out that report by the Zifa Independent Ethics Committee, chaired by retired Supreme Court Judge Justice Ahmed Ebrahim will be out soon as it was currently at the printers.
“Over lunch I made a phone call to the Asiagate committee and asked them for an update. I said we have promised the nation many times and it’s time we have the document. They said if we can now meet tomorrow (today) because the report is with the printers .
“We have promised the nation so many times and it’s not fair and also we have got a game that is coming which is very crucial and hope that there could be some very useful players who could be exonerated and included into the team that goes to Angola,” said Dube.
Dube believes the players who are exonerated could boost Rahman Gumbo’s options as he has already lost Tapuwa Kapini and Rodwell Chinyengetere through injuries ahead of the crucial game.
On the meeting, the Zifa boss said he was very happy with the response from the corporate sector and said Zifa will also make their initiative to source funds rather than relying on Government funding alone.
“We have a very fruitful meeting and I want to thank the Ministry for taking this bold decision to hold this football indaba.
“The other issue that we thought should be redone now is to reestablish the Warriors Trust. Remember that during the days of the late Vice President (Joseph) Msika he initiated this and it worked pretty well and our teams were able to travel without a lot of problems.
“Now we want to reestablish that and we will consult and get advice from the Ministry as well. It should be done because we need transparency and accountability of whatever comes,” said Dube.
