Zifa egm agenda released

THE agenda for the Zifa extraordinary general meeting set for June 4 has been released.

The meeting is set to propose and adopt a raft of recommendations, which will also see members endorsing the provisional expulsion of executive committee member Edzai Kasinauyo as well as affirming Peter Dube, the Premier Soccer League chairman, as a member of the Zifa executive committee.

Dube was elected in March this year following a landslide victory over Dynamos president Kenny Mubaiwa after incumbent Twine Phiri was booted out.

According to the agenda sent to the 21 Zifa affiliates by acting Zifa general secretary Joseph Mamutse, the EGM will also tackle the issue of match-fixing that led to the expulsion of Kasinauyo and sacking of Warriors’ assistant coach Nation Dube.

Zifa president Phillip Chiyangwa will make his maiden presentation as the leader of the association following his election into office on December 5 last year. His presentation is expected to be pregnant with a number of ideas and plans for the future of the association, which is burdened with serious debts and litigations.

During his manifesto launch at a Harare hotel last year, Chiyangwa hinted at a possible name change for the association, which he said would help attract corporate sponsorship.

“I intend to be radical and take drastic, but urgent steps to rebrand Zifa to a point where we actually need a change of name. Just the mention of Zifa brings no goodwill or desire to associate with it. Our challenge will be to reposition Zifa as relevant custodians of the beautiful game by restoring and maintaining trust and rebuilding real value so that we earn the attention and respect of all the game’s partners,” said Chiyangwa then.
