ZIFA Southern Region councillors last week met at Ascot Suburb, Bulawayo to nominate Tizirayi Luphahla and Tawengwa Hara as their Walter Magaya camp candidates for board roles.
The councillors then visited Masvingo for an interface gathering with Magaya where Masimba Chihohwa and David Muchena were expected to be endorsed as well.
The Bulawayo caucus, held on Friday, saw the participants take a position that they wanted two slots for the region in the 11-member Zifa board. The councillors’ choice for vice president of the Zifa board is Gift Banda.
“The councillors resolved that one of the slots must not be contested to allow Tizirayi to go in as a representative of lower division football structures,” said the mole.
The councillors, most of whom do not have PSL voting rights, had to make a toss between Hara and Highlanders secretary Morgan Dube, with Hara getting more votes. The meeting also agreed to back Highlanders chairman Kenneth Mhlophe for the PSL chairmanship and a slot in the Zifa board.
“That would be too many PSL people on the board, so we decided to have one and put the matter to vote and Hara won 8-6 beating Dube. Mhlophe is the favourite in the camp for the PSL chairmanship though I hear there is talk of Dumisani Sisale of
FC Platinum, Lifa Ncube of Chicken Inn and Dynamos’ Sylvester Maunganidze being favoured to land the post,” said a source.
Bulawayo Chiefs and Arenel were not represented at the meeting. Dube and Hara refused to comment on the Friday meeting.
Lloyd Munhanga whose co-opted executive was behind Friday night’s caucus meeting, promised to talk to the media at a later stage.
