adminTHE Zimbabwe Football Association’s woes continue to mount as the body faces censure over their failure to settle the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations affiliation fees.
The association reportedly owes Cosafa close to $7 000 in membership fees which date back three years and the regional body has threatened unspecified action to recover the monies.
Cosafa chief operations officer, Sue Destombes could only say Zifa would face the music if they failed to settle their dues, before referring this reporter to Zifa officials.
Destombes said Zifa were aware of the regulations relating to failure to pay affiliation fees but declined to state the exact action Cosafa will take against Zifa if they do not settle their dues.
Zifa chief executive officer, Jonathan Mashingaidze confirmed they owed Cosafa affiliation fees but said they intended settling the bill by Wednesday.
Meanwhile, sources at Zifa said there were attempts to block former vice president Omega Sibanda, board member finance Ben Gwarada and Women’s Football boss Miriam Sibanda from contesting the upcoming Zifa elections set for December.
“Fifa said the whole board was dissolved and everyone was free to contest the coming elections but there are attempts by the secretariat to bar the trio from contesting. I hear they have to first go through a disciplinary hearing but Fifa representatives said the whole board has been dissolved meaning even those on suspension had been dissolved, so they can not be dragged to a hearing as they are no longer part of Zifa. This is just politics at play.”
