This was revealed by Zifa president Cuthbert Dube in an interview in Harare on Saturday.
Dube said his board and assembly were committed to the Warriors beating Burundi to qualify for the next stage of the 2013 South Africa Nations Cup qualifiers.
Zimbabwe lost 2-1 in Bujumbura two weeks ago and will have to win at home to proceed to the next stage where the teams will be put into pools.
“Qualifying for the next stage is our primary goal. We will discuss the issue of the national coach at our meeting. We are happy though that Rahman Gumbo, our caretaker coach, did a good job in Burundi with limited resources.
“At the meeting that is where it will be discussed whether he continues or not. We want to collectively come up with an action plan that will help us get a positive result at home and proceed to the next stage,” said Dube.
Changing coaches, he said, was not good for continuity, giving a hint that Gumbo could still be around.
The FC Platinum coach was given the Warriors job on an interim basis following the suspension of Norman Mapeza on suspicions that he was involved in Asiagate with his assistant Joey Antipas.
In a written submission to Zifa last year, Antipas confirmed that they were asked to concede goals and lose matches while on tour in Malaysia.
“This habit of changing coaches is not good for the team. We need continuity from the coaches. “We will resolve the issue when we meet as the board. The Warriors will certainly top our agenda. The team is football flagship, we want it to succeed, that is why at times I have had to help out from my own coffers,” said the Zifa president.
Dube admitted that Zifa could have blundered by sacking experienced former Warriors manager Sharrif Mussa.
“He was an asset to the national team. In his job he went beyond managing it. He even came with sponsorships to complement what Zifa were doing or failing to do. It’s a pity when I came from the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea I found him already sacked.
“We need such people, they are resourceful. They keep the national association and national team going one way or the other. His issue is worth looking at again,” said Dube.
Mussa was replaced by Nyika Chifamba who struggled in his first assignment. There were problems with bringing players from South Africa and Europe with Noel Kaseke failing to pitch up because of poor communication between the manager and his club.
This left Gumbo with limited resources and options for the Burundi match.
Striker Knowledge Musona arrived a few hours before kick-off and managed to score Zimbabwe’s consolation goal.
Meanwhile, Dube has called on councillors not to bring politics to football. He confirmed that some of the assembly and board members had disruptive tendencies during meetings by speaking at the top of their voices and purport to be talking to senior politicians.
“The role of sport is to unify people across the universe. I appeal to councillors and board members not to drag politics into soccer. We are Zimbabweans who want our soccer and country to prosper,” said the Zifa boss.
