Zifa set to receive further US$300k from Caf

ZIFA is set to get additional funding from Caf as the continental football body seeks to assist member associations mitigate the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Caf announced Tuesday, following a virtual executive committee meeting, they have allocated an additional US$ 16.2 million that will go to associations’ coffers with each member country set to receive US$300 000.

The amount is in addition to a US$1 million the national football mother body is billed to receive from Fifa, with half of the amount set to come in this month.

Zifa communications and competitions manager, Xolisani Gwesela said the association will unveil details of how the funds will cascade down to the lower football structures in due course.

Local football clubs have been feeling the pinch of the Covid-19 halt with income drying up for some clubs resulting in some struggling to pay their players.

The Fifa funds are part of a US$1,5 billion the Fifa Council unanimously approved during its virtual meeting last Thursday and will see each of the 211 Fifa member associations receiving grants.

The first US$500 000 is set to come next month and the second tranche in January next year.

An additional grant of US$500 000 will be allocated specifically to women’s football.
