ZIFA Southern Region Division One Soccer League clubs have filed another petition calling for an emergency general meeting, a month after the regional leadership refused to bow down to pressure for a meeting.
Last month, the clubs had their attempt to force the regional executive to call for a meeting within five days hitting a brick wall, with the Zifa Southern Region chairman Andrew Tapela highlighting it was unconstitutional.
Tapela cited Article 26 paragraph (2) of the Zifa constitution which requires the board to give a 60-day notice before holding a meeting.
However, 14 out of the 17 clubs appended signatures to a letter dated December 3, with the subject “Notice to hold an Emergency General Meeting” indicating that they will congregate on December 19 at the Zifa Bulawayo offices.
The letter was received by the Zifa Southern Region administrator Augustine Ndlovu, who forwarded it to the executive committee.
In their submission, the clubs said: “The agenda of the meeting shall be as follows:
Review of the season.
Review and determination of the mandate of the Southern Region Board.
Resolutions on the proposed formation of the First National League.
Any other business where due notice has been given.”
Some of the highlights for the season review include Indonsakusa and Quality Foods throwing in the towel because of financial constraints as well as some clubs’ failure to pay referees.
The Wafa Wafa knockout competition, which was meant to be a pre-season tournament ended up having the final played at the end of the season after the initial sponsor pulled out.
With the Zifa national executive having sought the blessings of the councilors to continue with their mandate, the clubs want to deliberate on the subject for their regional board.
The Zifa Southern Region boss Tapela confirmed receipt of the latest letter, adding that they are in the process of responding to the clubs.
“It will be unprofessional of me to comment on the matter before we’ve formally responded to the clubs. Once we reply to their letter, you will be informed accordingly,” said Tapela. — -@ZililoR
