THE Zifa Southern Region Division One League will hold its delayed 2024 awards ceremony at Queens Sports Club on February 22.

On the same day, the region’s leadership will first meet the clubs at the annual general meeting.

The region’s spokesperson, Blessing Mbwanda said they will be guided by the national association regarding the hosting of the annual general meeting but preparations for the awards event are progressing well.

He said a number of sponsors have already confirmed their support for the awards ceremony.

“We intend to hold our AGM on February 22 but we will be guided by the national association on that matter. On the same day, we will be hosting our delayed 2024 awards ceremony.

“Preparations are well advanced, and I must say that the organising team has finalised the individual awards. We are confident it will be an event to remember,” said Mbwanda.

The past season was dominated by ZPC Hwange, who secured the region’s sole ticket to the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

However, ZPC Hwange will not be participating in the topflight league after entering into a strategic partnership with MWOS, who will take their spot.

Clubs intending to compete in the Zifa Southern Region Division One League this year must pay their affiliation fees today.

Those who fail to do so will forfeit their places in the league.

Several clubs have applied to compete in the Zifa Southern Region, and a decision will be made at the annual general meeting regarding whether any slots are available due to clubs failing to make payment.

The upcoming season in the Zifa Southern Region promises to be an exciting one.

With three relegated Premier League teams, Arenel, Bulawayo Chiefs and Hwange joining the fray, the competition is expected to be fierce.

These teams will be looking to bounce back to the top-flight league but they will face stiff competition from other strong teams in the region. Casmyn, Nkayi United, Bulawayo City, Zimbabwe Saints and Adachi all finished in the top eight last season and will be looking to build on their performance.

Teams like Talen Vision and Zebra Revolution could also cause some upsets.

The fact that there are no easy games in this season’s fixture list means that teams will have to be at their best every week to stand a chance of winning the title.
