ZIFFT board dissolved

management weaknesses have contributed to the board’s failure to deliver on its mandate.
“To turn ZIFFT around, the founding trustees — Rachel Kupara, Nigel Munyati, Dan Jawitz and Joel Phiri — have thus resolved to institute turn- around strategies that will set the trust back on its track.

“These strategies include improved governance, organisational restructuring, effective communications and financial stability,” read the statement.

The founding board of trustees said they will take over the daily running of the organisation until new appointments were made in the near future.

Formed 15 years ago, ZIFFT has been the cradle of Zimbabwean filmmaking, giving opportunities to young and aspiring filmmakers.

ZIFFT screens international films and local short films in cinemas and other venues in Harare, Bulawayo, Norton and Mutare.

A non-profit organisation, ZIFFT is credited for bringing the Zimbabwe International Film Festival which is an annual 10-day film fiesta held in Zimbabwe around August or September.

The festival is a non-political competitive platform that provides a showcase of feature films, documentary films and short films, as well as providing workshops and other cultural events.
It was launched in 1998.

The ZIFF Trust is built on a philosophy of developing trust, teamwork, relationships and creative collaboration for the benefit of film and cultural identity in Zimbabwe and the region.

Over the past seven years the ZIFF Trust has established itself as a reputable film institution in the region.
Some of the previous members of the ZIFF are Rumbidzai Katedza, Farai Mpfunya and Nakai Matema.
