admintournament is pencilled for March 2 and fighters from across the country are expected to battle it out in all weight categories from lightweight to heavyweight division.
Zika president, Tony Kamangira, said the tournament was for talent identification as the national association prepares for this year’s international competitions.
“We are preparing for a developmental tournament next month. Every year we start our year with development programmes, we want to scout talent. We are going to select the team that will compete in South Africa on March 23.
“We are urging everyone to come because it’s an opportunity for them to showcase their talent and the juniors should also take part in this tournament.
“All the provinces are expected to take part because we want everyone to be involved and we have sent the invitations to all provinces. We have eight active provinces and we are still working on Mashonaland East and Mashonaland Central but they are almost there, we only need to work on the committee,” said Kamangira.
Kamangira said they were hoping to send a bigger team for the South African tournament as they seek to expose their members to a high level of competition.
“We have already received the invitation for the South Africa tournament and we are hoping to send those that would have been selected at the tournament we are going to hold and our seasoned fighters.
“I am not sure how many countries will be there but I think there will be a number of countries and it’s an opportunity for us in terms of development,” said Kamangira.
The Zika president, however, noted that they were still finalising their calendar of events for this year but they expect a busy schedule.
