Zika postpone tournament

The tournament was initially scheduled for this coming Saturday at Girls High School in Harare.
Zimbabwe Kickboxing Association vice president, Vengai Mugadza said there are potential sponsors they are hoping to come on board but will only be able to confirm the sponsorship package early next week.
“We have moved the tournament from this Saturday to next week because of the sponsors who have promised to give us money. They have said they will only be able to confirm next week and we have to wait for them because we really want to give something to our fighters.
As people looking for help we have to be patient. The problem is that most in the corporate world want to be associated with disciplines that are already well established as compared to upcoming disciplines,” said Mugadza.
Participants will fight for honours in the lightweight, middleweight, supermiddleweight and heavyweight divisions. Mugadza said the postponement of the tournament is a blessing in disguise for some of the participants, as they will have more time to prepare.
“People have been preparing for this competition and it will be an added advantage for some because they now have more time to fine tune their preparations,” Mugadza said.
The Zika vice president said the tournament is open to everyone interested including fighters from other disciplines such as karate and boxing.
“We are expecting some of the high profile fighters like Brighton Tangata who is the national champion, the Bazioni brothers — Nobert and Knowledge as well as Ronald Deketeke from Victoria Falls. I have spoken to them personally and they have confirmed their participation.
“But this tournament is open to anyone who wishes to compete. We are expecting some individuals from boxing and karate mostly those that usually join us when we hold our national events. We are also going to have some juniors from Churchill Boys High School. They are coming from the school’s boxing club and they usually provide us with some fighters,” said Mugadza.
