ZIMBABWE’S 4x400m men relay team has qualified for the forthcoming World Relay Championships scheduled for China.

The competition is set for May 10 to 11 in Guangzhou.

The programme for the relays comprises of men’s and women’s 4x100m and 4x400m, plus mixed relays – and 32 teams will be entered in each of the disciplines.

Zimbabwe earned their qualification in the 4x400m posting a time of 3minutes 03.39seconds during the Lefika International Relays Challenge in Francistown, Botswana on March 29.

The performance saw them being ranked 28 by the World Athletics, leaving them within the qualification frame.

The team was made up of Leeford Zuze, Gerren Muwishi, Aldrin Mafa and Dennis Hove.

Zimbabwe managed to maintain the position by the close of the qualification window on April 13, and secured their spot at the global championships.

National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe president Tendayi Tagara hailed the team for the feat.

“I think it’s a good performance bearing in mind that Zuze and the other guy were running 45seconds, they ran 45, so it was quite a strong team.

“It’s a good performance, the team is balanced when you have athletes running 45, 46 seconds.

“So, this is a very balanced team,” said Tagara.
