Zim Amateur Golf championships tee off

The tournament, which draws several international amateurs from the Southern Region, will be played over three days.
The golfers will play 18-holes today and tomorrow before finishing with 36-holes on Sunday with a cut off after the first two rounds.
Zimbabwe’s leading amateur Scott Vincent is the defending champion after getting the better of several local and South African golfers and is confident that he can handle the challenge.
“They are mostly the same players I always play against and I think my game is improving.
“I am looking forward to the game and will take each shot as it comes,” said Vincent.
Vincent has just returned from the Zone VI where the national team came third.
The absence of Rogers Jack, who is now playing in the professional ranks, will free spaces for Clive Nguru, who is doing well. Nguru won the first two high-profile tournaments of the season.
Mathew Ncube has also been doing well and showed his class in winning the Dugmore Trophy in Bulawayo.
The Zimbabwe Golf Association secretary Joe Sithole is hopeful that the tournament will produce a quality contest. “We hope this tournament will give the local golfers a chance to showcase their talent.
“With the event being the biggest in the country they will give each other a good run,” Sithole said.
Meanwhile, Trust Bank staged a fund-raising golf tournament for Tongo Charamva at Warren Hills Golf Club on Wednesday. Trust Bank first partnered Charamba in 1999 when he was still an amateur golfer.
