President Mnangagwa has met a Roman Catholic organisation, Sant ‘Egidio, which is dedicated to social justice and advocating for the removal of capital punishment.

In an interview, the organisation’s secretary general, Mr Paolo Impagliazzo commended Zimbabwe for playing a leading role in abolishing death penalty.

“Zimbabwe’s decision on death penalty can help other countries. We have to abide by what the church says – that death penalty is unjust. We have no right to take someone’s life,” said Mr Impagliazzo.

The organisation, which has a worldwide reach, has been playing critical role over the past decades in peace building.

It was also instrumental in ending civil war in Mozambique.
