N’OMBEYAORA retained the top spot on the Northern Region Soccer League after beating Chinhoyi Rangers 1-0 at Chinhoyi Stadium yesterday.

Elly Lunga scored the all-important goal.

Yesterday’s win means they are now on 57 points, with second-placed Agama having accrued 55 points.

On Saturday, Agama, had overtaken N’ombeyarara by a single point after beating Zambezi Gas and Coal 3-1 at Pfura Stadium in a Mashonaland Central derby on Saturday.

On-fire Grey Kufandada scored twice for Agama, with Malvin Nyauyanga scoring the other goal for the Mount Darwin-based side.

Kufandada is proving to be an important acquisition for Agama.

The goal-poacher has so far scored 10 goals and was also named the NRSL Supafix Zimbabwe Player of the Month for May.

For Paul “Popopo” Chimalizeni, the Agama coach, it is still game on.

“The good thing is that we scored three goals and managed to keep up the pace.

“I was impressed by the zeal, hunger and determination which was exhibited by my boys on Saturday. This is what we need at this stage of the championship race,” Chimalizeni said.

Elsewhere, relegation-threatened Ali Sundowns registered a 2-0 win over bottom-placed Shamva Mine at Wagadhugu Stadium.

At Commando Barracks, Cranborne Bullets edged visiting Karoi United 1-0.

Harare City won 3-2 against Ngezi U19, with Black Mambas and Trojan Stars settling for a 1-1 draw at the Mkushi Academy grounds.

At Kuwadzana Stadium in Banket, visiting Chinhoyi Stars featured in a goalless draw with Banket United.
