Tariro neGitare, Tendai Madzviti, Prayersoul and Munyaradzi Nyamarebvu are in Germany working on an album with Germany reggae/funk band Jamaram. The musicians who are on a musical tour of Germany initially met Jamaram at the Harare International Festival of the Arts (Hifa) in April this year where they collaborated with the group during the festival’s workshops. Some of the songs were performed in front of Hifa audiences and were instant hits.

Tendai Madzviti aka Tendex said the album which would comprise at least 17 songs would be a fusion of different genres.

He said it would have a neo soul reggae and afro feel with Shona songs sung by the Germans.

“We are trying to capture as many audiences as we can on this album as we want everyone to have a favourite song. Sammy Danger from Jamaram is going to sing my song Garai and we are going to use Shona here and there in their songs,” Madzviti said.

Madzviti applauded the Zimbabwean Germany Society for giving them an opportunity to showcase their talent in Germany.

“We would like to thank the Zimbabwe Germany Society and Guramatunhu family trust for sponsoring this tour and Wildfire events which created the platform for us to come here,” he said.

Those who attended Hifa would remember Jamaram very well as the Munich-based group left many crying for more, especially after they replaced Freshly Ground which failed to make it to the festival. They put up a splendid show using popular dancehall chants such as Popopo – something which made them an instant hit among the Hifa crowds. – Harare Bureau/Showbiz Reporter
