THE Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation is the country’s weapon in defence of its resources and the right to self-determination, a senior government official has said.Director for the National Youth Service in the Ministry of Youth, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Cde Francis Potai said it was important for every Zimbabwean to carry the gospel about the economic blueprint to every corner of the country.
Cde Porai was speaking at a Zim Asset sensitisation workshop in Gokwe-Nembudziya at the weekend.
Government heads of department in Gokwe North, councillors and Zanu-PF district chairpersons in the constituency attended the two-day meeting.
The leaders are expected to then teach lower structures in the constituency.
“Zim-Asset is our shield in the fight for our economy against people from Western countries who want to come here and take our resources,” he said.
“Zim-Asset was crafted for the whole country but you as people of Gokwe you have your specific needs in the implementation of this economic blueprint. The ideology in this document is that of self-sustenance. Zim-Asset talks about the need for us to make sure we have adequate and nutritious food from the family level while surplus will then be availed for needy areas.”
Cde Potai said all Zimbabweans must endeavour to fulfil the objectives of Zim-Asset in honour of President Mugabe’s black empowerment vision.
He said relying on foreign aid from Western countries was unsustainable.
Gokwe-Nembudziya legislator Cde Mayor Wadyajena said Zim-Asset was another step toward achieving economic independence following the land redistribution exercise and the indigenisation and economic empowerment programmes.
“We know most of you have heard about Zim-Asset but maybe do not understand what it means. That is why we brought Cde Potai so that he explains to you as leaders so that you can then take the message to others.
“Let us be serious about this document because it will guide us in how we can achieve economic independence and how we can uplift our livelihoods,” said Cde Wadyajena.
