THE Zimbabwe Beach Volleyball team will today jet out for the African Games qualifiers set for Mozambique from April 16 -19. Zimbabwe will join Angola, Mozambique, Botswana, Lesotho and Zambia. According to Fredreck Ndlovu, the Zimbabwe Volleyball Association president, they have been working tirelessly in order to travel with an in-form team.
“The team is departing for the qualifiers tomorrow and we’re confident they’ll represent the country well. It will not be easy playing some of our neighbours and the hosts but we’re up for the task. The team is in good form and I do believe they will deliver the desired results,” Ndlovu said.
He said they will be hoping to qualify for the African Games to be held in Congo Brazzaville from September 4 to 19.
He said the team was made up of strong seasoned players most of whom ply their trade in the local league.
“We’re focusing our energies on booking our ticket to the African Games. The team that we have is strong as it also has a foreign based player Simbarashe Chidziva who plays in the Swaziland League,” he said.
Team Zimbabwe beach volleyball is made up of Nyashadzashe Takawira, Kudzai Nigel Sibangani, Rufaro Douglas Choto, Keith, Emmerson Machakaire and Simbarashe Chidziva for the men.
The women’s section players are Viola Muchaona, Media Mafuta, Progress Gasa and Tsungirirai Taderera.
They are accompanied by coach Engai Nyaude and international referee Elliot Mupariwa.
