TWELVE National Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness athletes left the country yesterday for Gaborone to compete in the Mr Botswana bodybuilding pageant tomorrow.
Bulawayo-based athletes were led by veteran body builder and coach and includes Lazarus Shereni and Delvin Page. Reigning Miss Zimbabwe Novice Shantel Bhatch will not be part of the travelling party due to family commitments.
The Harare-based contingent comprises Blessing Samaringa, Olivia Samwanda, Mitchell Jambwa, Prosper Saungweme, Simbarashe Mhaka, Isaac Chimuchenga, Tapiwa Chibota, Dumiso Dlodlo as well as Reginald Tasara is led by Givemore Marume.
Gama said although he was saddened by the absence of Bhatch, he was confident that the team will still do well.
“I’m confident of the team we’re travelling with. As Bulawayo, we’re sure this year we put up strong performance in events such as Mr Novice and Mr Zimbabwe, and we hope to do even better in the Mr Botswana event,” said Gama.
Marume said they were also looking forward to the event, which they would use to gauge their improvement ahead of other competitions next year.
“We’re preparing for the Arnold Classics next year and this will help athletes have a feel of international competitions and pointers on where to improve on,” he said.
The bodybuilders will compete in the strongman category where Saungweme and Gift Sango will participate in.
Page will compete in the Under-23s while the rest will be in the fitness and bodybuilding line-up.
