Zim clinch bronze at ITTF championships

ZIMBABWE attained a bronze medal in the women’s Under-19 African Table Tennis Federation ITTF-Africa Youth Championships held in Gaborone Botswana at the weekend.

The talented quartet of Naama Boterere, Kuzivakwashe Chidhakwa, Charuma Ruvarashe, and Precious Chimbetete represented Zimbabwe and fought hard to secure the bronze medal, showcasing their skill and determination on the international stage.

The team was coached by Vimbai Makuvaza and managed by Fungai Zinatsa, who have played a crucial role in nurturing and supporting these young athletes.

“We are thrilled with the achievement of our under-19 women’s Table Tennis team. They have demonstrated the depth of talent and the bright future of our sport in Zimbabwe,” said Fungai Zinatsa, the team manager. “This bronze medal is a testament to  the hard work, dedication, and commitment of the players and the coaching staff.”

Boterere, Chidhakwa, Ruvarashe and Chimbetete expressed their joy and pride in representing Zimbabwe and bringing home the bronze medal. “This achievement is a dream come true for us. We are grateful for the support and guidance of our coaches and the Zimbabwe Table Tennis Union, and we are determined to continue our improvement and bring more success to our country,” said the team in a joint statement.

Noah Ferenando, the president of the Zimbabwe Table Tennis Union, said: “We are immensely proud of our under-19 women’s Table Tennis team for their outstanding performance at the ITTF Africa Youth Championships. This bronze medal is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our players, coaches, and the entire Table Tennis community in Zimbabwe. We will continue to support and invest in the development of our young athletes, as they are the future of our sport.”

The ITTF Africa Youth Championships is a prestigious event that attracts the best young Table Tennis talents from across the African continent. Zimbabwe’s bronze medal performance in the under-19 women’s team event is a significant accomplishment and a testament to the country’s growing presence in the sport.

The Zimbabwe Table Tennis Union and the nation as a whole congratulate the under-19 women’s team on their remarkable achievement and wish them continued success in their future endeavors.
